Examine the Data
Take a look, this is the graph of life expectancy as a function of GDP per capita across US states. Each dot represents a state. The color of each dot represents its political lean based on the last 8 presidential elections. Note:
1. It's clear that the more money you have, the longer you live.
2. More interesting from a political economics perspective is that there are many more blue dots above the trendline and many more red dots below the trendline. That means that the money that someone makes in a red state can buy them much less life than the same money in a blue state.
